Essen 2022 calling

Some time ago Christian from Spielstil.net drew my attention to the #BG2GETHER campaign and asked if I would like to participate. At #BG2GETHER different bloggers, podcasters, vloggers etc. create a post about a topic from the world of board games once a month and link each other. To me, this is a great way for all participants to benefit through networking. The reader gets diverse access to a particular topic. After we took care of expansions to board games last month, today it's all about the fair. Which one? Spiel 2022 in Essen, of course ....

Are you going to visit the Spiel in Essen? What do you expect from it? What are you looking forward to the most.

The eagle has landed! The Brettspielgilde will not be represented at the Spiel in Essen 2022. What sounds dramatic has a very simple background: the whole family is in Italy - more precisely in South Tyrol - with bag and baggage at the aforementioned time. On the one hand, this is a pity for me, because I would have been very happy to meet as many of you as possible - Spiel 2022 would have been a great opportunity for that. I would also have liked to see one or the other novelty live and play it.

On the other hand, some trade show novelties have arrived on my shelf in the meantime and of course accompany me on vacation. In addition, in recent years, many exciting opportunities have arisen to follow the fair online. Since I am a big fan of Podcast's I look forward here particularly to the fair radio of Beeple. I'll also be following the other relevant channels from afar over the days of the show.

And can you still remember your first visit to the Spiel?

Yes, and it wasn't that long ago. It was Spiel 2019, it was overwhelming, it was crowded and after a busy day I was lying on the couch in the evening exhausted but happy.

How was it for you and has the trade fair changed for the better or worse for you? Why?

I can't really judge that after a single visit. But the pandemic has contributed to a lot of content being digitized faster and better, which I think is a big advantage. Of course, there's nothing like an on-site event, because when it comes to gaming, the direct interaction is always in the foreground for me.

Finally, I wish everyone great days at the fair and hope to see one or the other on site next year (or alternatively at the Spiel Doch! :-)
